The Newbury was inspired by the environment of Boston Light’s Little Brewster Island, a two-acre landmass among a group of discrete islands. Echoing the function and form of Boston Light, the Newbury offers the private serenity of a landmark that is both separate and essential to the city. Its elliptical curves, inspired by the lighthouse’s unmistakable shape, embody the relaxed approach of Eastern seaports and the classically glamorous style made famous by the Kennedys. Just as the lighthouse functions as a beacon to navigate sailors to port, the Newbury provides a bathing experience to guide you back home.
INSPIRATION | Boston Light, America’s oldest continuously used lighthouse, was originally built in 1716 but destroyed by the British during the Revolutionary War. In 1784, it was rebuilt as the tower that stands today. The stone tower is erected 102 feet above sea level, enabling its navigational light to flash for 27 miles out into the Atlantic to vessels entering Boston Harbor. The Boston Light carries on its rich history as the last and only lighthouse to be operated by a U.S. Coast Guard keeper today.
